Its one of those things you try to forget
Tell yourself it was because he was lit
Hell you even start to believe you asked to be hit
The bruises fade away but the fear is here to stay
You even get a restraining order to keep him at bay
Fourteen days the county let him stay
Now for safety to the lord you pray
Now when you sleep
By your head a knife you keep
Praying that through the night he wont creep
Wishing you had someone to hold you
As you cry yourself to sleep
But there’s only yourself to here you weep
For years you denied it
As most of the bruises you could hide
So in hidden shame you lied
Just as many nights you cried
You keep telling yourself he loves you
Wake up sister love don’t leave you black and blue
No matter how hard he tries to convince you its true
